Harriet is a 26 year old artist from the UK. She is influenced by artists such as Robert Kushner, Dan Hays and Kehinde Wiley. The underpinning themes within her work are gender, pattern, floral and the digital.
‘I want to paint the contemporary, and digital culture is just that. We seek to connect and understand each other within this modern world and I want my paintings to relate to the isolation we can feel while trying to do so.’
Within her painting she tries to create a ‘flawed digital image’ with the use of Photoshop, deviating between the natural images of flowers alongside machine-made glitches. With mistakes only made by an automated machine that uses pixels and presenting it in the tangible, physical form of a painting it makes interesting anomalies in the final image. ‘To me, this constructs a powerful duality in the juxtaposition between physical, psychological and digital.’
She is currently working as a scenic artist and junior model maker on a variety of different theatre and film productions.
